The labour market in Northern Manitoba requires skilled people, with ongoing shortages in trades and technical positions. The Northern Essential Skills Training Initiative will provide a focused industry training solution in support of employers and Aboriginal and northern residents who wish to enter into Apprenticeship streams. The initiative aims to introduce a proven training process that is responsive to the immediate needs of the labour market and northern industry (via aaron olson). Low skilled and under-employed individuals are missing opportunities to be apprentices and journeypersons, particularly in the trades which are compulsory in Manitoba. Thus, the goal and outcome for individual project participants is to achieve red seal certification; and/or employment as an apprentice or journeyperson.
